(VOVWorld) - The Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations and the Vietnam-Cuba Friendship association held a get-together today/Wednesday in HCM City to mark the 51^st anniversary of Cuba's Hiron victory. Gabriel Perez Tarrau, Cuba’s Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City, said the victory was a milestone, as it was the first time that American troops were defeated in Latin America.“On the 19^th of April 1961, the invading forces were beaten backs after 72 hours and the patriotic Cubans demonstrated their unfaltering resolution to fight for national independence and socialism. Over the next two weeks, Vietnam will celebrate its great triumph over the American army, which marks the Americans’ failure in a prolonged war, ended in April 1975. This victory led the national reunification, which is the prerequisite for national sovereignty. Both of our victories were made in the Spring, the best time of the year. We are proud to say that this was the spring for the two peoples and the two countries,” said Gabriel Perez Tarrau.
