(VOVworld) – A festival took place in Ho Chi Minh City on Sunday to call on the municipal young people to do for Vietnam’s sea and island. More than 2,000 youths responded to the event by participating in drawing posters on Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos, in arts exchange, and initiatives to support socio-economic and cultural development of maritime areas. Young people attended a training course on the law of the sea and the law on the national border to better understand the significance of border demarcation and landmark planting. They also saw 69 photos featuring the life of soldiers and people in the islands. Duong Ngoc Tuan, Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City’s Youth Federation, the festival’s organizing board, says:

The activity aims to educate patriotism and the love to the national sea and islands for the city’s young people. This is one of practical activities through which local youths can do for soldiers and military staff in Truong Sa/Spratly archipelago and platform DK1.

On this occasion, 3,000 national flags were presented to fishermen of Can Gio district in Ho Chi Minh City and Ly Son island district in Quang Ngai province and 10 sets of computers and printers for soldiers and military staff of the Navy’s Zone 2. Ho Chi Minh City’s Youth Union also launched a program to send SMS to raise fund: ‘For beloved Truong Sa Island – the national frontline’.
