Indonesia foils planned terror attacks on tourist spots

Indonesia’s Special Detachment 88 foiled a terror plot at tourist spots, national police said Tuesday. Anti-terror police killed 7 suspects and detained four others in a raid last week.

National police spokesman Boy Rafli Amar said the raid came following a tip that tourism spots in the town of Bima on Sumbawa and Tana Toraja in south Sulawesi were targeted. He said the terrorists also planned to attack a Bima hotel, places of worship, and police offices. An ongoing investigation suggests that the insurgents may be connected to a terror network led by Indonesia’s most-wanted terrorist Santoso, who has allegedly trained young militants to launch attacks on security forces.
