The official said the high-level talks this week between Iran and the P5+1 group is just the start of a “long, complicated, and difficult period without a guaranteed success”. The US does not expect a quick result from this first official round of talks. Meanwhile, Iran leaders are also not optimistic about the negotiations. Iran’s supreme leader Ali Khamenei predicted that talks between Tehran and world powers about Tehran’s nuclear program will “go nowhere”. This round of negotiations, chaired by Catherine Ashton, EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, will last several days. Iranian Foreign Minister Muhammad Javad Zarif and Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi will attend the negotiation. The P5+1 and Iran plan several more rounds of talks in the coming months.
