One particularly devastating strike on a school sheltering hundreds of refugees in Gaza City killed at least 33 people, including many children.

Israeli forces also escalated their offensive on the city of Khan Younis. Casualty figures from that area have not yet been released.

Israel’s Ministry of Defense announced Monday night that on Tuesday 170 aid trucks entered the Gaza Strip, the most allowed into Gaza in a single day since Israel began easing the blockade on humanitarian supplies last week.

International aid organizations, however, said the volume of aid remains far below the need — currently estimated to be 500 to 600 trucks per day.
