(VOVworld) – Japanese and Chinese experts have released a joint statement stressing the urgent need for their governments to start talks aimed at easing tensions over the territorial dispute involving a cluster of islands called Senkaku by Japan and Diaoyu by China.

 About 80 experts, including former senior government and military officials, business executives, scholars and journalists met at a two day forum on territorial history and security issue which concluded on Sunday in Beijing. They also called for Japan and China to settle their disputes by peaceful means and to learn lessons from history to develop better relations.
