(VOVWorld) – Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung held talks with his Japanese counterpart Yoshihiko Noda in Tokyo on Saturday on the occasion of his attendance at the 4th Mekong-Japan summit. The two leaders agreed on specific measures to leverage the Vietnam-Japan partnership to a more comprehensive and practical level. Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda assured Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung that Japan will continue to provide official development assistance (ODA) for Vietnam to help the country carry out socio-economic development projects, especially infrastructure and energy projects. He said Japan will also further assist Vietnam to implement poverty reduction and climate change adaptation programs, formulate and carry out national industrialization strategy until 2020, and develop the country’s East-West Economic Corridor.
PM Dung told his host that Vietnam creates the best possible conditions for Japanese businesses to operate efficiently in the country. He said Vietnam encourages Japanese companies to take part in infrastructure construction projects in the form of Public-Private Partnership (PPP). The Vietnamese leader proposed that Japan further help Vietnam develop support industries and specialised industrial complexes in Haiphong city and Ba Ria-Vung Tau province. Noda proposed that both countries work closely to speed up projects on scientific cities and ecological parks in Vietnam.
The two Prime Ministers agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation in human resource development, science-technology, culture, and people-to-people exchanges. PM Dung proposed that Japan increases scholarships for Vietnamese students. The two PMs exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual concern, and vowed to coordinate closely at multilateral forums.
Earlier, PM Nguyen Tan Dung made key speech at the Tokyo Press Club to address Japanese reporters’ questions about Vietnam’s strategic goals and development plans, the prospects of Vietnam-Japan strategic partnership, and Vietnam’s stance towards a number of international and regional issues.
PM Dung and his entourage left Tokyo in the evening, concluding their four-day trip to the 4th Mekong-Japan summit at the invitation of PM Noda.
