Japan, Malaysia underscore free and open Indo-Pacific

(VOVWORLD) - Japanese and Malaysian leaders agreed to continue working closely for a free and open Indo-Pacific region during their 20-minute phone conversation on Wednesday, said the Japanese Foreign Ministry.

Prime Minister Kishida Fumio and his Malaysian counterpart Ismail Sabri Yaakob agreed to deepen bilateral ties as this year marks the 40th anniversary of the Look East Policy in Malaysia to learn from Japan's experience in economic growth, according to the Japanese Foreign Ministry.

The two leaders discussed international issues of mutual concern, including the conflict in Ukraine. Prime Minister Yaakob affirmed that Malaysia is ready to promote efforts to peacefully resolve this conflict.
