Lawmakers advocate tobacco harm prevention fund

(VOVworld)-Members of the National Assembly Standing Committee have stressed the urgent need to issue a law on tobacco harm prevention to protect people’s health. At a meeting in Hanoi on Wednesday, the legislators agreed that a fund on tobacco harm prevention should also be established to raise money for related activities.

Phung Quoc Hien, Chairman of the National Assembly’s Committee on Economy and Budget, suggested that contributions to the fund be sourced from special consumption tax:“We should raise special consumption tax levied on tobacco and reserve part of this budget for the fund. By doing so, we only need to control spending.”
The draft law on tobacco harm prevention will be submitted to the upcoming National Assembly session.
