M23 group seizes key cities in DR Congo
(VOVWORLD) - On January 29, the M23 armed group, backed by neighboring Rwanda, took control of most of Goma, a major city in North Kivu province in eastern DR Congo.

According to sources, M23 fighters and the Rwandan army have occupied the airport, city center, and residential areas since launching a rapid offensive on January 26 to capture the provincial capital.
The intense fighting over the past three days has resulted in over 100 deaths and nearly 1,000 injuries, overwhelming local hospitals.
