900 former soldiers, young volunteers, and relatives of fallen soldiers of the Dien Bien Phu campaign attended the meeting.

President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, Do Van Chien, highlighted the great historical significance of the Dien Bien Phu campaign and the enormous contributions of Dien Bien soldiers, young volunteers, and militiamen.

"The Vietnamese nation and people will forever be grateful of the heroic martyrs, who devoted their lives to the eternity of the nation. 70 years after the Dien Bien victory, many martyrs have not been identified. Their sacrifices brought peace and happiness to Vietnamese people today. Our predecessors sacrificed their lives to build the Vietnamese nation. Generations of Vietnamese people must never forget those sacrifices and must unite and be loyal to protect our Fatherland,” said Mr. Chien.

To Thi Bich Chau, Vice President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front said that this is an opportunity to review the heroic years of the nation and inspire the young generation to promote the predecessors’ traditions to successfully carry out national construction and defense tasks.

“The meeting aims to widely introduce the meaning, stature, and great historical value of the Dien Bien Phu Victory and affirm the correct and wise leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam and President Ho Chi Minh and the great national solidarity spirit as the decisive factors in the Dien Bien Phu victory. We honor the merits of Dien Bien soldiers, young volunteers, and civilians who directly participated in the Dien Bien Phu campaign,” Mrs. Chau said.

During the Dien Bien Phu campaign, nearly 179,000 Thanh Hoa people of working age participated in the civil service and more than 3,500 pack-bikes were used. People in Thanh Hoa province transported more than 9,000 tons of rice to the Dien Bien front.
