(VOVworld) - More than 7,000 people have been confirmed dead in the 7.8 magnitude earthquake that struck Nepal on April 25, according to Nepal’s National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC).

On Sunday, Nepal police found another 51 bodies including 6 foreigners in Langtang valley in Rasuwa district. A total of 54 foreigners have been found dead across Nepal.

At least 100 foreign tourists have been reported missing in the 8 days since Nepal was struck by its strongest earthquake in the past 80 years.

Finance Minister Ram Sharan Mahat said the death toll is likely to rise now that rescue workers can approach remote villages where houses have been damaged by continuing aftershocks.

Nepal closed its main international airport to large planes on Sunday because of runway damage from the influx of flights delivering aid and rescue workers.
