Chairman Hung said that by enhancing unity and democracy, the National Assembly has fulfilled its role as the people’s highest representative body and the State’s most powerful agency. The National Assembly has completed a huge workload and approved many draft laws to fine tune the legal system. Last year, the National Assembly approved the revised Constitution, which represents the will and aspirations of the people and creates the legal foundation to develop the country in the era of comprehensive political and economic reform and international integration. The National Assembly has approved many resolutions and decisions important to national growth and people’s livelihoods. For the first time, a vote of confidence was held on the officials nominated or ratified by the National Assembly. Q&A sessions have been renovated to become more practical, creating the condition for cabinet members and sector heads to explain and discuss with the deputies solutions to socio-economic issues of voters’ concern. Multilateral and bilateral external relations have been boosted in line with the foreign policy of the Party and the State. Vietnam’s National Assembly has taken part in and contributed significantly to regional and global parliamentary forums such as AIPA, APPF, IPU, and ASEP. Chairman Hung said that the National Assembly will continue to reform itself to Vietnam’s development in order to strengthen people’s trust in a transparent and democratic legislative body. 2014 and 2015 are the last two years of the 5-year development plan set out by 11^th National Party Congress. Chairman Hung asked all ministries and sectors to reign in inflation, stabilize the macro-economy, ensure an appropriate growth rate, improve growth quality and increase economic competitiveness. He called for efforts to carry out the 3 strategic breakthroughs along with restructuring the growth model and the economy. National defense, political security, and social security and welfare should be ensured, administrative reform and anti-corruption should be boosted, and the business environment should be improved. External relations and international integration should be expanded. The National Assembly in 2014 and 2015 will have to complete a huge workload in terms of legislation and supervision, requiring every of its agencies and deputies and agencies in the political system to exert great efforts and work together. Chairman Hung said that National Assembly agencies and deputies will continue to help the Party, the State and the people to overcome difficulties toward achieving the goals set for the 2014- 2015 period.
