National Assembly Standing Committee convenes 22nd session

(VOVworld) - The 22nd session of the National Assembly Standing Committee opened in Hanoi on Thursday with a wide range of issues on its agenda. In his address, National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung emphasized the importance of the session, which will discuss preparations for the sixth session of the 13th National Assembly slated for later this month.

The Committee will give opinions on the Government’s reports on the implementation of socio-economic development plans and State budget for 2013, the 2011-2015 socio-economic development plan, and plans for 2014. Reports related to the State Audit of Vietnam will also be on the table. The committee will discuss amendments to a number of draft laws. These include the Law on Bidding, the Law on People’s Public Security Forces, the Law on the Vietnam People’s Army Officers. Government proposals on Vietnam’s participation in the Cape Town Convention and Aircraft Protocol and Vietnam’s signing of the UN Convention against Torture will also be considered. Committee members will continue to offer their opinions on revisions to the 1992 Constitution.

After the opening session, the Standing Committee discussed a report on the implementation of national target programs in the 2011-2013 period and the issuance of Government bonds to fund the upgrading of National Highways 1 and 14. The Committee will later share views on the outcomes of the implementation of the master plan on economic restructuring.
