(VOVWORLD) - North Korea opposed the joint military drills between the US and South Korea and demanded "an immediate stop to the hostile military acts of disturbing peace and stability on the Korean peninsula," state news agency KCNA said Tuesday.

With the deployment of at least one US nuclear-capable B-52H strategic bomber, North Korea said, the drill shows that the US scheme to use nuclear weapons against Pyongyang is being carried forward at the level of an actual war.

The US and South Korea staged combined air drills Monday, mobilizing the bomber as well as the South's F-15K and KF-16 fighter jets.

The Freedom Shield (FS) exercise is set to take place from March 13-23.
