At the workshop held by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) and Can Tho City’s People’s Committee, experts said the model which has been piloted since April this year has helped increase local farmers’ income, cut production cost, and especially reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Cao Duc Phat, Chairman of the Board of Directors of IRRI, said the model has used less pesticides and fertilizers and changed rice cultivation techniques, helping to reduce environmental pollution and greenhouse gas emissions.

“This model is relatively complete in terms of the infrastructure, especially the irrigation system. If farmers can see the positive results, we plan to replicate it. We hope to reach the goal of one million hectares by 2030,” said Phat.
