Overseas Vietnamese support storm victims in Vietnam

(VOVWORLD) - Vietnamese communities around the world have come together to raise funds in support of people back home, following two powerful typhoons — Bualoi and Matmo — which struck central and northern Vietnam in early October.

The Vietnamese Embassy in Laos raised about 30,000 USD while the Vietnamese community in the Czech Republic donated more than 61,000 USD to help storm victims in Vietnam.

The Vietnamese Associations in Poland and Hungary are also launching fundraising campaigns to support areas in Vietnam heavily affected by the storms and floods. In the United States, staff at the Consulate General of Vietnam in San Francisco recently held a donation drive, each contributing one day’s salary to help people back home.

Typhoons Bualoi and Matmo brought prolonged heavy rainfall, causing severe flooding and landslides that left thousands of homes submerged and disrupted the lives of local residents.
