Pakistanis call on the government to end its alliance with the US

Hundreds of Pakistanis have called on the government to end its alliance with the United States and get out of the US war on terrorism to protest against a NATO cross-border attack that killed 24 Pakistani soldiers on Saturday. Members of civil societies, lawyers, traders and students on Monday organised rallies in major cities, where opposition to the US alliance is rampant. In an interview with CNN the same day, Pakistani Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani said Pakistan wants to maintain its relationship with the United States as long as there was mutual respect and respect for Pakistani sovereignty. He highlighted incidents such as the recent killing of the Pakistani troops and a US raid into Pakistan to kill Osama bin Laden as violations of his country’s sovereignty.
