This will be the first visit to Bulgaria by a General Secretary of the CPV since Bulgaria transitioned to a new political system in 1990.

It is an opportunity for the leaders of two countries to strengthen cooperation in areas where Bulgaria has strengths and Vietnam has a growing demand including information technology, quantum technology, artificial intelligence, digital transformation, green transition, and biomedical sciences.

The visit is also aimed to strengthen links between Bulgaria and ASEAN and between Vietnam and the EU.

Hang said Vietnam hopes the visit will open new opportunities for trade and investment by more effectively implementing the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA), and promoting early ratification by the European Commission of the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA).

These steps would boost investment and trade turnover between Vietnam and Bulgaria, and between Vietnam and the EU, said Hang.

Hang stressed that building on the traditional friendship between the two countries, the visit will enhance people-to-people exchanges and promote tourism, culture, and educational cooperation. There is hope for an increase in cultural and artistic events in both countries, following the success of previous initiatives such as the Bulgarian Rose Festival and the Day of Slavic Writing and Culture in Hanoi.
