PM applauds ADB’s funding, policy advice for Vietnam’s development

(VOVWORLD) -Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh applauded Asian Development Bank (ADB)’s support for Vietnam’s major guidelines and policies, especially funding and policy advice, which he said contribute positively to Vietnam's rapid and sustainable development.

Addressing the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Vietnam-ADB partnership in Hanoi on Wednesday, Prime Minister Chinh called ADB an important partner, whose total funding to Vietnam has reached nearly 18 billion USD distributed to about 600 programs and projects in agriculture, rural areas, education, health, transportation, energy, urban infrastructure, among other. ADB also provided 6.45 billion USD for trade transactions through commercial banks in Vietnam.

The Prime Minister said he hopes that ADB will continue to work with Vietnam in macro policies; support Vietnam in developing infrastructure, especially transportation infrastructure, infrastructure of economic zones, and infrastructure to respond to climate change through major Official Development Assistance (ODA), preferential loans, technical assistance as well as recommendations on strategic directions in infrastructure development. He called for ADB’s help for Vietnam to achieve net zero emissions by 2050.

Earlier on Wednesday in Hanoi, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received ADB President Masatsugu Asakawa, who said ADB wishes to work with Vietnam on effective cooperation projects in energy transition, green transition, and promote cooperation in emerging industries, such as semiconductor chip, artificial intelligence (AI), and upskilling the private sector.
