PM urges all-out effort to address flood damage

(VOVWORLD) - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on Sunday ordered the immediate allocation of 44 million USD to the flood-hit provinces of Dak Lak, Lam Dong, Gia Lai, and Khanh Hoa.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, the recent floods have left 102 people dead or missing, damaged more than 1,150 houses, and destroyed over 80,000 hectares of rice and crops. Numerous transport, irrigation, education, and healthcare facilities were also damaged, with total losses estimated at nearly 345 million USD.

PM Chinh requested that repairs to damaged houses be completed by the end of this month, and that relocated residents from landslide-prone areas be provided with accommodation before the the end of January next year.

“We must ensure no community is left inaccessible. It is crucial to search for the missing, treat the injured, stabilize daily life, restore production and business activities as quickly as possible, and promptly propose mechanisms and policies to address the disaster’s impacts at the earliest,” he said.

In recent days, the armed forces have mobilized nearly 150,000 personnel for disaster response and recovery, delivering 86.5 tonnes of food and supplies. Three military helicopters have been deployed to airlift relief goods to isolated areas.

The Ministry of Finance has allocated 4,000 tonnes of rice to Gia Lai and Khanh Hoa, while the Ministry of Health has provided 6 tonnes of chemicals, 150,000 water purification tablets, and 3,000 essential family medicine kits.

Hundreds of trucks carrying food and necessities from across the country are en route to flood-hit communities.

Airlines have activated emergency programs to transport relief cargo free of charge, and mobile operators have enabled roaming services in Dak Lak, Gia Lai, and Khanh Hoa since Thursday.

The electricity sector has restored power to more than 920,000 customers and is working to reconnect the remaining 258,000.
