ASEAN must be ready to further expand export markets and welcome more US investors, he noted.

PM Chinh was joined by leaders of other ASEAN member countries and US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken.

The Vietnamese leader stressed the need to promote cooperation in climate change response and enhancing resilience against natural disasters. Vietnam welcomes the US’s continued support for the development of the Mekong sub-region through the Mekong-US Partnership framework, including enhancing resilience to climate change in Vietnam's Mekong Delta region, he added.

Vietnam suggested allocating appropriate resources to make science, technology, and innovation cooperation a new pillar in the US-ASEAN relationship, especially in the fields of semiconductors and AI.

It also proposed that ASEAN and the US enhance their coordination and contribute more to peace, security, and stability in the region.

Vietnam asked that the US continue supporting ASEAN's common stance on the East Sea, coordinate with the bloc to ensure peace, security, and stability in the East Sea and the region, and support its efforts in reaching an effective and substantive Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC) in accordance with international law.

The summit concluded with participants adopting the ASEAN-US Leaders’ Statement on promoting safe, secure, and trustworthy artificial intelligence.
