Mr. Trong delivered a report on the President’s performance in the 2016-2021 tenure at the opening of the last session of the 14th National Assembly in Hanoi on Wednesday.

Reporting to the National Assembly on the achievements of external relations in the past term, Party chief and President Trong said, “As Vietnam hosted of the APEC Year 2017, the President successfully chaired the APEC Summit which was attended by many heads of state and leaders of other countries, leaving a deep impression on international friends."

"In the context of complicated developments of the COVID -19 pandemic, the President has had active and appropriate external activities such as delivering online speeches at important international conferences, holding telephone conversations with leaders of major countries, neighbors, and countries that have established special friendly relations with Vietnam. These activities have contributed to strengthening and deepening the relationship between Vietnam and other countries, while affirming that Vietnam continues to make a positive, proactive and responsible contribution to the shared work of the international community,” said Mr. Trong.

Party General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong said lessons have been learned to continue to expand, develop and enhance foreign relations, to create stable and sustainable political trust with foreign partners, to handle properly and effectively relations with neighboring countries, major countries, strategic partners, comprehensive and other partners, and to maintain a peaceful and stable environment for national development.
