(VOVWORLD) -Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said that while fighting against the new coronavirus (Covid-19) epidemic, the task of socio-economic development should not be neglected.

At a government working session to gauge impact of Covid-19 on Vietnam’s economy and update this year’s economic growth scenario, Prime Minister Phuc called for efforts to stabilize and develop the country through businesses and services. He listed such measures as restructuring the economy, reducing costs, supporting investors, reducing interest rates, and changing markets amid the Chinese market’ impacts on Vietnam.

He called for drastic measures to fight the epidemic without complacence and panic, but emphasized on stronger measures to boost  growth, a challenge that Vietnam needs to overcome.

At the meeting, the Ministry of Planning and Investment predicted Vietnam’s economic growth of 6.25% if the coronavirus epidemic is contained in the first quarter of this year. If the epidemic is contained in the second quarter, Vietnam’s growth will be  5.96%, according to the Ministry.
