The seminar offered an opportunity for peace activists to share experience and make suggestions to Asian and European state leaders. Vu Xuan Hong, Chairman of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations, said at the opening ceremony that peace and security are the wish of all peoples around the world. Asian and European social organizations have co-operated closely with governments to make peoples’ dreams come true. Hong noted:
“Escalating tensions in the Middle-East, Ukraine, and the Korean peninsula, and sovereignty and jurisdiction disputes in Asia-Pacific have caused serious concerns for many people. And nuclear arms races, militarization, terrorism, and non-traditional security threats are directly affecting civilians’ lives, have killed thousands of people, and have forced millions to flee their homes.”
Delegates to the 2-day meeting shared information about recent developments in Asia and Europe and discussed alternatives for promoting peace, security, co-operation, and solidarity between peoples.
