(VOVWORLD) - Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke on Thursday at the Valdai Discussion Club, a forum of Russia experts, where he shared his views on a number of international issues, including Ukraine, Russia-US relations, and the changing world order.

Putin said in the city of Sochi that the world is undergoing a profound transformation, with many unpredictable changes, requiring Russia to adapt to these shifts.
A multipolar world has already taken shape, and nations must seek common ground in their own interests, he said, adding that the world is becoming more diverse and no longer abides by “rules of the game” imposed unilaterally by one side.
Putin noted the growing militarization of Europe, and said this development must be closely monitored and met with an appropriate response from Russia. He stressed that attempts to exert strategic pressure on Russia are not working.
Putin said the reason efforts to end the Ukraine conflict have not succeeded lies largely with certain countries. He revealed that the Russian armed forces are establishing a buffer zone in combat areas at a pace he described as “steady and planned.”
Putin acknowledged that there are many differences in how Russia and the US approach global issues, but he said differences between major powers are normal. He expressed confidence that if both sides maintain respect and engage in frank dialogue, mutually beneficial solutions can still be achieved.
