As of 11 am Friday, 5 people were reported dead, 3 were missing, and 7 were injured in the central region. Thousands of houses were damaged and 93,000 households were forced to evacuate.
Deputy Prime Minister Ha said that Typhoon Kalmaegi was a strong storm, but due to timely and accurate forecasting and appropriate response measures, the damage was minimized. Vietnam recorded one of the lowest levels of damage in the region, he said. The Government will initially provide 2.1 million USD to the hardest hit provinces.
"The affected provinces must conduct a comprehensive assessment of local production and business activities, including crops and aquaculture, and then propose appropriate policies related to taxation, credit, new loan issuance, and post-disaster environmental sanitation. What can be handled locally must be done proactively," said Deputy Prime Minister Ha.
The Vietnam Red Cross Society will allocate more than 192,000 USD for emergency relief efforts in six provinces and cities heavily impacted by prolonged rain and flooding, including Da Nang, Thua Thien Hue, Ha Tinh, Quang Tri, Quang Ngai, and Lam Dong.
