(VOV) – The young volunteers who took over the capital city of Hanoi after it was liberated in 1954 held a reunion on Sunday.

They recalled their triumph and their role in getting people to participate in welcoming the historic day. In peace time, the former young volunteers have reminded their children to abide by Party guidelines and State laws and contribute to building a modern, civilized capital city. Vuong Thi Hieu told VOV: "We meet annually to share our memories. Whenever I recall the past and watch the documentary of that day, I cry. At home, I often tell my children about the traditions of the young volunteers. They are proud of me, who witnessed that important day in the capital."
