(VOVworld) – Russian Ambassador to Vietnam Andrey Kovtun says the joint statement of APEC leaders has shown their commitment to stable development and prosperity for the Asia-Pacific region. He told a media conference in Hanoi on Wednesday that Russia as host of the APEC summit, which took place in Vladivostok last week, appreciated Vietnam’s active and effective participation in the summit, especially President Truong Tan Sang’s speech on food security.

Ambassador Kovtun told reporters about the cooperation between Vietnam and Russia: “Through meetings and contacts between the two countries, both realize some potential areas for cooperation such as garment and textile, wood processing, seafood, and mining. Local authorities plan to allocate land to establish an exclusive economic zone for Vietnamese investors in the Far East.”

Kovtun said the inter-governmental committee on commercial and technological cooperation will meet in October to discuss concrete steps to speed up the two countries’ strategic partnership
