Russia to push UN to approve Syrian transition plan

Russia will press the UN Security Council to this month endorse a Syria peace accord that was brokered in Geneva and has since split world powers.

Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Saturday in the Russian city of Vladivostok after meeting US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Mr. Lavrov added that there is a plan to hold a special meeting of the UN Security Council with the participation of ministers on the Syrian issue. Russia’s top diplomat said the UN Security Council will hold a meeting on Syria’s crisis in 20 days. Lavrov said Russia protested sanctions on Syria and accused some Western countries to encourage the opposition in Syria to refuse to negotiation. Russia’s Foreign Minister called on related parties to sit at the negotiating table and stop violence in Syria.
