In his address, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Le Dinh Tien said the consultative joint venture is working on the location and investment for the Ninh Thuan 1 nuclear power plant. Project documents will be submitted to the National Appraisal Council for consideration and approval later this year. Deputy Minister Tien said: “The feasibility project must choose the technology that meets the National Assembly’s requirements for ultimate safety, security and effectiveness. Our Russian partners have introduced a number of technologies. Vietnamese experts will study them to select the best option.”

The Ninh Thuan nuclear power plant is part of Vietnam’s efforts to ensure energy security in order to boost the development of science and technology and support industries. The project was approved by the National Assembly in September 2009. Vietnam has signed an agreement with Russia to build the Ninh Thuan 1 nuclear power plant and with Japan to construct the Ninh Thuan 2 nuclear power plant.
