Vice Admiral Anup Singh, former Commander-in-Chief of the Eastern Indian Naval Command, said the East Sea routes are irreplaceable for goods transportation in East Asia and Southeast Asia. He called on all parties to stop unilateral actions and comply with international norms, including the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, to ensure maritime freedom. Rear Admiral Akimoto Kazumine, a senior researcher at Japan’s Ocean Policy Research Foundation, urged stability in the East Sea, because, he said, maritime routes in the East Sea are lifelines for countries.
