Vietnam is currently having 19 organ transplant centers but a shortage of donors has prevented them from serving dozens of cases reported each day.

Deputy Health Minister Nguyen Viet Tien told the conference: “We are lacking the connection and sharing of information among the 19 centers in Vietnam. Patients in developed countries, such as the US, have easy access to information concerning organ transplants thanks to their advanced software. We need to follow suit and work to establish an information system linking transplant centers in Vietnam and regional countries to improve the organization and coordination of transplant activities.”

More than 20,000 people in Vietnam have registered to donate organs after death or brain death, hundreds of times higher than five years ago. 3,700 transplant surgeries have been conducted so far.
