Singapore proposes ASEAN spokesperson

(VOVworld) -  Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has proposed that Myanmar’s State Counselor and Foreign Minister Aung San Suu Kyi serve as the spokesperson of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) on international affairs.

Myanmar’s Presidential Office spokesperson said the proposals was made at a meeting between the two leaders in Nay Pyi Taw on Tuesday. Aung San Suu Kyi said she will do her utmost to contribute to ASEAN’s relationship with the international community.

 Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong is on a three-day visit to Myanmar at the invitation of Myanmar’s President U Htin Kyaw. He is the first Asian leader to visit Myanmar since its new government took office on April 1. The visit marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Singapore and Myanmar.
