(VOVworld) – At least 11 people were killed and 50 injured in a stampede at a temple during a Hindu religious festival on Monday in Deoghar in Jharkhand state, in eastern India.

Police official Subodh Kumar said that up to 150,000 people tried to force their way into the temple when its gates opened and eight women died. Tens of thousands of people were participating in the month-long Savan festival at the temple of Shiva, one of the main deities of Hinduism. The temple is located 300 km from the Jharkhand state capital of Ranchi.
