Residents said the female bomber struck at a bar in the Pont Vert neighborhood, close to a bridge crossing a river that runs next to the town. Military and emergency services pored over the scene in search of survivors. One resident said it appeared the death toll could be as high as 30 as the bar had been crowded at the time, but there was no official confirmation of that. No-one has claimed responsibility for this bomb explosion.

At least 12 people were killed on Saturday when two suicide bombers attacked a crowded swimming pool in northern Iraq. The attacks in the town of Tuz Khurmatu, about 175 km north of the capital Baghdad, left 45 others wounded. Most of the victims were Shi'ites from the country's ethnic Turkmen minority.
