Tensions increase on Korean peninsula

(VOVworld) -  A South Korean naval ship fired warning shots before it seized a North Korean fishing boat intruding about 1 nautical mile across the disputed sea border. A spokesman for South Korea’s Defense Ministry said Thursday that the tough response might create high tensions along the disputed sea border.

The same day, the UN Security Council condemned North Korea's recent test-firing of missiles and called for a meeting to decide on an appropriate response. Addressing a press conference after the closed-door council discussion, Luxembourg’s UN Ambassador Sylvie Lucas said that although the condemnation will not be issued in the form of an official statement, 15 members of the council had asked her to publicize the condemnation, which was fully supported by all. Luxembourg now holds the Security Council’s rotating presidency.
