(VOVworld) - Thailand's caretaker Prime Minister Niwattumrong Boonsongpaisan proposed that the Thai Election Commission hold new elections on August 3, just hours after the Thai army declared martial law nationwide to restore security and order in Thailand. Boonsongpaisan told reporters that the government has submitted proposals to the Thai Election Commission regarding the time and date of the elections and will issue a decree on this matter after receiving the Election Commission’s approval.  He also pledged talks with the Command of Ground Forces as soon as possible to put an end to Thailand’s political crisis. The same day, protesters vowed to continue their campaign to overthrow the Thai government, despite the imposition of martial law.
