(VOVworld) - Thailand's Election Commission has called for July’s parliamentary elections to be postponed because of the political unrest shaking up the country.
Three anti-government protestors were killed and 23 were wounded in a gun and grenade attack on the site of their protest in Bangkok on Thursday.
Thai police reported that two M79 grenades were thrown into the protest site near the Democracy Monument followed by lots of gunfire. So far, the attack’s leaders remain unidentified.
Hours later, hundreds of demonstrators stormed an air base north of Bangkok where Election Commission officials were convening a meeting to fix a date for the election. On Thursday, Election Commission Secretary General Puchong Nutrawong recommended the election be postponed until August. Twenty-seven people have been killed during the 6-month campaign of the Thai People's Democratic Reform Committee, and many more have been wounded.
