Through this festival, Vietnam and ASEAN will have a common voice in preserving and developing heritage values.

UNESCO Director General Irina Bokova said the organization of the festival also aims to mark the 10th anniversary of the UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage (2003-2013) which is a significant time for both Vietnam and UNESCO: “This is a significant timing for both Vietnam and UNESCO as cultural heritage has shown its role in strengthening dialogues and mutual understanding for long term peace and sustainable development. Vietnam has proved that culture is a driving force for sustainable growth. I am pleased to see other Southeast Asian delegations participating at this event as cultural and social harmony will be key pillar for the future ASEAN community.  “
