Ukraine agrees to minerals deal, Zelensky plans to visit US
(VOVWORLD) - Ukraine has agreed to the terms of a minerals deal with the US and could sign it Friday, coinciding with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's planned visit to the US, Western media reported.
Ukrainian sources said Ukraine has agreed to a US partnership in the exploitation of its mineral resources, with revenue directed to a joint fund.
While a draft agreement includes a clause mentioning "security," it lacks specific US commitments. Security assurances had been a key Ukrainian demand. A general clause in the agreement states that the US will invest in a stable and prosperous Ukraine, seek lasting peace, and support security efforts. The two governments are finalizing the agreement's details.
US President Donald Trump said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will likely visit Washington on Friday and may sign the agreement then.
