Poroshenko said that a plan to establish 3 defensive lines across Ukraine’s border was being implemented and that the Ukrainian Army had been provided with new weapons and scouting devices. Poroshenko explained that although Ukraine wanted to resolve the conflicts in Donbass by peaceful means, it still needed to defend its national interests. An announcement by the Ukrainian Army said that more than 100 soldiers were killed and some 600 injured following clashes with opposition forces since a cease-fire took effect in Ukraine’s eastern region 2 months ago.
