UN Under-Secretary-General Herve Ladsousd said on Thursday that the UN will continue with its efforts to resolve the crisis in Syria. Ladsoud said that half of the 300 UN observers have temporarily left Syria, but they will return to finish their mission.

He said there is no “plan B” other than the peace plan brokered by special envoy Kofi Annan, and called on parties concerned to stop the violence and clear the way for political resolution.

In another development, Syria’s media said on Thursday that the government’s army is prevailing against the rebels in clashes throughout the country. The media reports said the government troops had regained control and dislodged rebels from the neighborhoods of Salahuddien and Sakkari in the city of Aleppo.
