Ukraine Peace Summit begins in Switzerland

(VOVWORLD) - The Ukraine Peace Summit began its first meeting on Saturday at the Burgenstock resort, Switzerland. After the press conference with the participation of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, the delegations of the countries began the general discussion session and held sideline meetings.

Speaking at the conference, Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud said that to resolve the situation in Ukraine, every effort should be made to improve dialogue between Kiev and Moscow. According to Foreign Minister Al Saud, any negotiations aimed at finding peace for Ukraine needs Russia's engagement.

Also at the conference, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz noted that peace cannot be achieved without Russia's participation in dialogue.
President of the European Commission Charles Michel, said peace will only be achieved through dialogue. Therefore, he said, Kiev must decide for themselves when they are ready for such a step. Sharing the same opinion, Swiss President Viola Amerd said that if Russia wants peace, at some point, Russia needs to participate in the negotiation process. Chilean President Gabriel Boric said that Russia's presence is key at the negotiating table.
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said the conditions offered by Russia to resolve the conflict are important steps that bring hope, particularly for the development of a comprehensive strategy with diplomatic efforts.
Regarding this issue, French President Emmanuel Macron said that it is necessary to increase the number of countries participating in promoting a peace plan for Ukraine.
Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida called for increased global efforts to achieve "just and lasting peace" in Ukraine.
