(VOVWORLD) -Vietnam has identified science, technology, and innovation as strategic choices and a top priority, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said Monday in Hanoi while receiving Amandeep Singh Gill, UN Under-Secretary-General for Digital and Emerging Technologies, who is also UN Secretary-General António Guterres’s Envoy on Technology.

Mr Chinh noted that fields such as digital transformation, big data, Internet of Things (IoT), cloud computing, quantum technology, semiconductors, clean energy, and new materials are seen as new driving forces for Vietnam’s development.

He welcomed the UN’s commitment to promoting international cooperation on technology, particularly in AI, digital transformation, and innovation.

Gill spoke highly of Vietnam’s increasingly important role in the development of science, technology, and innovation, especially in AI, adding that digital technology presents a significant opportunity for countries to make a leap forward, with Vietnam being a prominent example.

Gill said he hopes Vietnam will contribute more to promoting cooperation and enhancing solidarity in technology development, and focus on the implementation, governance, and international collaboration on AI, and that Vietnamese tech companies will engage in and contribute to Vietnam’s domestic socio-economic development, helping to address global issues, especially in developing countries.
