At a press conference at UN Headquarters, Guterres warned that global divisions, conflicts, and crises have brought the principle of international cooperation to its most fragile point in decades.

He called for drastic steps to end the conflicts in Gaza, Ukraine, Sudan, and elsewhere, and reiterated the need for “a just, lasting peace in the Middle East based on a two-State solution.”

He urged countries to bring forward stronger national plans to keep global warming below the 1.5°C threshold envisioned in the landmark 2015 Paris Agreement on climate change.

He also announced the launch of a Global Dialogue on AI Governance to ensure that technology develops with benefits to humanity “at the center”.

150 heads of state are expected in New York for UNGA-80 next week with the theme “Better Together”, aiming to promote international solidarity, multilateralism, peace, security, sustainable development, and human rights.
