UNESCO honoring President Ho Chi Minh means a lot to Vietnamese

(VOVWORLD) -The adoption of UNESCO resolution honoring President Ho Chi Minh is a recognition of his great contributions to the common struggle of the world's people against oppression and injustice, for national independence and social progress, according to Assistant to the Foreign Minister Le Thi Thu Hang.

Vietnam’s Permanent Delegation to UNESCO and its Embassy in France held a ceremony in Paris on Tuesday to honor President Ho Chi Minh – a great man of peace and culture. Hang told reporters that UNESCO honors noble ideals, cultural identity and aspirations of the late leader in particular and the Vietnamese people for a world of peace, equality and happiness.

She added the values, legacy and ideology of President Ho Chi Minh are universal, transcending the times, are issues that Vietnam and humanity are trying to protect and pursue such as human rights, national rights, independence and self-reliance, human liberation, and international solidarity.

His thoughts on culture and education are also the mission that UNESCO is currently promoting: cultural diversity, illiteracy eradication, lifelong learning coupled with global education, and tree planting coupled with environmental protection.

Over the past 35 years, activities to honor President Ho Chi Minh have been one of the highlights of Vietnam’s cultural diplomacy, Hang said.
