(VOVWORLD) - The United States has announced a new 725 million USD military aid package for Ukraine, Secretary of State Antony Blinken said Monday.

The package includes anti-drone weapons, HIMARS ammunition, artillery ammunition, drones, anti-personnel mines, and anti-tank missiles. The US has transferred anti-personnel mines to Ukraine for the first time, breaking its policy against using or sharing such mines outside the Korean Peninsula. Ukraine has pledged not to use the mines in densely-populated areas.
President Joe Biden plans to rush billions of dollars in security assistance to Ukraine before he leaves office in January, reports say, hoping to shore up the government in Kyiv before Donald Trump returns to the White House.
The Biden administration plans to ship 7.1 billion USD worth of military aid to Ukraine from the Pentagon's stockpile. Of the weapons transfer authorization passed, 4.3 billion USD remains, in addition to 2.8 billion USD worth of transfers lawmakers approved in previous spending measures.
