US boosts maritime law enforcement aid to Southeast Asian countries

(VOVworld) – The US will provide more support for the maritime law enforcement forces of Southeast Asian countries, a US official said Thursday.

William Brownfield, Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs, said the US will provide more than 100 million USD to enhance the capacity of maritime law enforcement forces of Malaysia, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Vietnam.
This is 4 times higher than the amount Secretary of State John Kerry proposed in December, 2013.
