(VOVworld) – A US Navy destroyer fired warning shots at 4 ships of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps which approached the Strait of Hormuz at high speed last week. The US Naval Forces Central Command regards the interaction "as unsafe and unprofessional".

The USS Mahan established radio contact with the Iranian fast-attack vessels but failed to get them to slow down.  The Mahan fired flares and a US Navy helicopter also dropped a smoke float before the warning shots. The Iranian vessels came within 800 meters of the Navy destroyer. The Iranian authorities were not available for comment.
